Trying to Upgrade my Productivity

Feeling a bit forlorn on that front this week in my deluge of paperwork, client work, taxes, bills—the usual paper detritus that covers my desk with snowbank-esque white and guarantees my thumbs masses of paper cuts. Michael Hyatt has some good tips for me. Lifehacker gives this list. And then MacKids shows off What’s On My Desk features and I really am doing fine with my home office.

So, how do we upgrade our productivity?

1. Quit focusing on what we do badly and focus on what we do well. This easy little anecdote comes courtesy of writer Allison Nazarian. It’s a good one, yes?

2. Just start. Get your egg timer, set it for 15 minutes, and ignore your fears. This tip courtesy of me and writer Melanie Benjamin.

3. Reward yourself often. For me, eat cookies, watch mindless television, or read something that takes you away. For me yesterday, it was the possibility that they found Noah’s Ark in Turkey.

Will I be more productive today? I highly doubt it. I am almost finished with my piles of paperwork (I am sorta employed again and might need to have clearance to work on top secret government projects!) and client work and my own to-do list that is always way too full for my own good.

Wish me luck. And hopefully some of these tips help you as well.
