Mental Health Break

Wiped out today. Too much writing. Working on the Indianapolis piece for my class and truth be told, it’s MUCH easier to just throw up a blog post about it. A memoir piece (especially if I want this to be published) takes a lot of effort; more layers and that “through line” of theme.

My writing teacher, Brenda Peterson, has had a banner week! First Library Journal, then Booklist, and yesterday Kirkus came back with starred reviews. In the publishing industry, this catapults a writer into the big time. Ever heard of Elizabeth Gilbert and Eat, Pray, Love? Her new memoir was tagged next to Brenda’s upcoming memoir as books to watch this winter. This is seriously huge news. If you’re interested in finding out more about Brenda, her blog (that I helped her launch yesterday) is here. Yes, she is a survivor just like me (her family are Southern Baptist) and she seeks to give back love and grace rather than hellfire and brimstone.

My goal is to follow her example as best as I can. That’s the hope.
