SPACE: How Many Containers Would It Take?

With the neighbors moving to Minnesota, I’ve seen their home in the past weeks go from full to empty. They used shipping containers (not as large as the colorful ones above) to store everything until they build or buy their home later this year. They used five containers (each probably a fourth of those above) and I stood out on my front porch wondering quite a few times, “Would my stuff fit into five of those?”

It’s kinda scary to think about having to pack up everything to store for up to 18 months. How would I even begin to decide what to pack up? And would all my books fit? Put into boxes, they are like anvils weight-wise. The book boxes would have to be spaced out among all the containers to keep it even. And how would I even choose the books to pack and keep out? So tough.

Glad I’m not moving.

But it made me realize how I let my house become stuffed with stuff. I mean, who really needs boxes and boxes of some of this stuff. I have boxes of pampered chef that have never been used and storage containers that are still sealed shut just as they came from my wedding gift opening. It’s depressing. I’m thinking that after Europe I’m going to come home and clear it all out. I just can’t handle the idea that in order for me to move or pack up, it would take six months to sort and clear out. I’m going to start now. That way if that island ever comes available, I’m ready to go.
