Today marks Easter Sunday. Instead of writing, I’m remembering the reason I write. Before anyone of you thinks I’m going to start preaching, relax. I’m not.
But I am talking about why I write. And it is Easter Sunday that is my reason. You may write for other reasons. Just don’t let it be only for money or fame. Neither of those will get you everything you want.
I write because if I don’t write, I’m restless. I fidget, get anxious, think I’m losing my sanity, and am grumpy enough to have to self-correct. Sure, earning a living from my writing would be great and to do that I have to become somewhat famous, but really, I love to write. Yet it’s still not enough.
The motivation for writing can’t just be because you love it. There must be some sort of purpose. What are you trying to accomplish? What good are you giving back to the world when you write? And yes, I believe everyone who writes gives back something.
Anyway, it’s worth pondering today (for me, most importantly), because today reminds me that the reason I write is to give and show grace. You don’t have to define it the same as I do, but grace is needed in this world.
I write to give more grace. And I have a great time while I do it, which is cool. I also might get paid for it and become semi-famous as side results.
I just hope I always keep to my primary objective.

What a beautiful reason to write. Thanks for the inspiration to define my purposes too.
Thanks for commenting, Pam. I believe defining our purposes makes us better writers, braver writers.
Have a great week.
