I actually write for a living (well, not really, but my writing has become an important part of my income at least). Just the thought kinda freaks me out.
It seems like way too much pressure. Know the feeling? (Please say yes.)
You have a great day (for me, my writing happens before and after the day job) and get a lot of writing done, and then you realize you have to wake up and do that all over again.
Let me warn you folks, writing is hard work. I wish I could say it was always fun (it is, on the good days), but there are days it just is like getting gum out of my hair or something. I wish I had better news for you.
I think those of us who aspire to write books need to know the truth. If you want to write something over 1500 words, it’s hard work. Sure, you can throw something on the page (or screen) and call it good, but if you want to be paid for it, you’ll have to revise. And that, my friends, is what makes writing so much like gum.
I just hope tomorrow is a good writing day. I’ve had my share of gum this week.

Hi Trish!
This is a great post!! It’s like your in my head!! I always feel like I’ve slayed a dragon once I’ve completed a writing assignment. Thank you for showing writing for what it is – a sticky, sugary, bittersweet process!
Hope things are well! Will you be going to Jen Lancaster’s book signing in May?
Hey, A! Thanks for the props. Nah, I just think all of us go through this more than we talk about. Oh, is Jen up here in May? I’m going to be off traveling for a lot of that month. I’ll have to research and find out when she’s here.
Thanks!
