Overcoming Resistance: How I’m Doing With It

in brilliant,overcoming resistance

It’s been a few weeks of me posting snippets of the War of Art and I figured I should let everyone know how I’m going with the resistance thing.

I’ve had a few bad times. I got really discouraged earlier this week because a client told me that my writing wasn’t working for his project. I’ve reworked things and feel better, but basically I’m reinventing yet again. This web content stuff is hard work. You CANNOT just sit back and rest on what you’ve already done for long. Things are moving really fast in social media and blogging. I am inventing a new form of blogging today, so wish me luck.

The resistance told me I couldn’t do it, I was lost and it would take years to find my way back, and that I might as well just give up because there’s no way it was going to work.

The professional in me heard the resistance and then promptly went to work reading dozens of business blogs, reading books, thinking through what the client had explained to me. I refused to take no for an answer and instead began working immediately on a new approach. Will it work? Time will tell.

But I will not bend to resistance. I will not.

This public service announcement is dedicated to my sister, who also must reinvent herself on a continual basis and also has a birthday today. Love ya, sis!

I hear you about the constant reinvention.
A good buddy once told me
‘If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space.’
I remember that when being pushed to change.

You know Trish, I think one of the things that you/people don’t necessarily realize which could help, is the fact that friends are fans and read and enjoy tips and tricks. I’m eager to hear about your invention and am cheering you on!

Then again, I’m fairly incoherent so I’m not sure how much this counts for just now….

Kimber, excellent quote. I always use “lead, follow, or get out of the way.” But that might be too much pressure, actually. Yours is easier on me. :)

Rachel, aw, thanks. Makes sense to me and means a lot.

I get weary, I admit. Sometimes the reinvention feels relentless, as if nothing ever will be good enough, but I’ve been nice and comfortable for awhile and I appreciate the client trying to break into the next level (and taking me with them). It’s good to push forward, but even nicer to know I’ve got friends rooting me on to keep going. :) I’ll keep everyone posted.

The thing I like about you is that even when you reinvent yourself you still manage to be YOU – in all your style! :) Thanks for the shout out, I love you, too!
