SPACE: Planning For Spring

I love spring! I hope I get to see spring this year.

We’ve just come through Seattle snow part cinq and now it’s raining (a good sign), but it’s almost April and I am so ready for spring. I even bought capris. (That’s a sign I’ve had it with winter for sure, as capris are usually on my don’t you dare wear these in public list, but whatever.)

Around the house these days, I keep seeing piles of stuff that I want to just deal with, but there never seems to be the time and then I create another pile and pretty soon, I’m surrounded. Well, my hands are up. I am ready for spring cleaning.

I also want to paint something and I want to dig up flowerbeds (where is THAT coming from?) and I want to go around the corner to Redondo Beach and sit on the pier and watch the boats or wade in the surf and collect rocks. Hubby scheduled a trip to Anacortes for next weekend and I want to rent some bikes and just ride around and let the wind blow in my hair. I want to see whales, I want to wear flip flops and large Jackie O glasses. I want to sip lukewarm Coke and munch on sandy chips. I want to laugh at the little kids who stick their bare toe in the surf and then dance around because it is really cold (yes, WA water is really cold).

It must be because of spring that I feel parts of me wake up. I feel compelled to buy self-tanner, to open a window to hear the birds and the rain, and to read all of Rachel Ashwell’s decorating books again. I want to draw something (and I can’t draw). I want to sit in the grass and listen to bees buzzing.

I think this yearning for spring comes from knowing that after spring comes summer and warmth (and this year I actually won’t be working through my summer like a crazed maniac) and picnics and barbecues and kids playing ball. I think my neighbor kids are already there because the baseball home plate and bases are already placed out where they will stay all spring and summer long in our culdesac.

With spring, I feel like it’s okay to take a step back and look from a wider angle at my world.

Now we just need the sunshine. Come on, sunshine.

I am the exact same way with the decorating
(and I am SO not a handy or decorating type of person).
Around this time of year,
I want to paint walls.

My Mom comes to visit
beginning of April though
and she is deathly allergic to paint fumes
so I have to resist!

Kimber,

Nice to meet you! My mom is allergic to some kinds of paint, so as long as we use the right stuff, it’s okay.

Hope spring is where you are today! (Rain in Seattle; so what’s new?)
