Simile: I am like a bird.
Metaphor: “Trish?” Todd said. “Trish is nothing but a bird, flitting here and flitting there, never settling long enough on one thing. Sometimes I come home from work and she’s actually perched in her chair, singing to herself. I know that she’s had a very productive day and is feeling good.”

Hahaha. Yeah, poking fun at myself, but do you see the difference?

Instead of relying on cliches to describe, why not use a metaphor that really describes in fresh terms your character. (And, no I don’t sing to myself very often [ahem], but I do fly around happily [on both my feet] when I’ve had a good day.)

Now, go write some metaphors.
