So tomorrow, Twilight the movie comes out. I was an intrigued reader of this novel, but seriously, the movie looks amazing. Talk about ratcheting up the vampire genre just a tad more. Wow.
What makes this so intriguing?
The high concept. Vampire in love with a mortal girl and if he protects her, he upsets the natural vampire universe.
This is why these books are so powerful. This is not just a matter of love, life and death, or honor, these are matters of entire shifts in this created world’s makeup. This stuff sells.
Something I’ve been thinking about this week as I write for Nanowrimo.
Truthfully, I’m exhausted from the Nanowrimo deadlines. My house is a disaster, I work, sleep, eat, write, and then rinse and repeat. I’m not even sure I’ll make it to 50k actually. It depends on my energy levels this next week. I’m having family for T-day, and cooking for the meal we’re having at a friend’s home. I’ve had to be realistic and realize that I might not make it, but what I did accomplish this month was to create a very succinct high-concept idea. At least I’m on the right path. Novels take years to write. I don’t like it, but it might very well be the way it is.
Happy Thursday.
