Books are the hot topic in the aftermath of our election last week. A great collection of links to share today.
Publishers are courting Sarah Palin. No surprise there. She is the number one topic of discussion over at HuffPo even today.
Nanowrimo rages on with me in attendance. I’m writing, but just when you’d think I’d be powering ahead, I realize I need to flesh out more details. It’s not slowing me down, but making me dread the post-Nano revision stage. So, when I’m not writing, I’m revising. Yes, I’m a bit possessed by this book. So what’s new?
Authors are talking about Bush’s literary legacy. Nuff said. Except, I think once the dust settles and president-elect Obama has a couple of presidential terms under his belt, we’ll realize Bush is not the antichrist (neither is our president-elect, for the record!) and that he did do a few things right. Um, 9/11 for starters. And I supported the war in Afghanistan all the way and still do.
A Dress a Day blogger Erin McKean talks about her book deal. I love her blog. What a great thing for her to get a novel deal from it.
I signed up to book blog for Thomas Nelson last week (awaiting my first book to review; actually it’s a new Bible version that I chose) and already the controversy has erupted. I actually think Hyatt’s approach is rather “maverick” and wonder why the hub-bub? Really, book reviews are dying. Publisher have to get the word out somehow, right? I’m a reader, I’d love to review Thomas Nelson books. I spent years in Christian publishing in the production and editorial departments and so I think I’m a good reviewer candidate. I can write a review to get a review copy. What’s wrong with that? You don’t think this happens already?
And another note on the two presidential candidates’ memoirs: Did president-elect Barack Obama win by memoir? I agree that he just might have. His memoir is incredible. Such a great book. If you’ve haven’t read it, you should. McCain’s was great too, but our country is ready to move forward with fresh ideas (time will tell if the ideas are actually fresh or just recycled politics). Is our president-elect a Kennedy or a Carter? Or will we actually get an Obama. We’ll soon find out. I like that Oprah predicted (sheesh, I’m so over her already) that in the future we’ll be citing time pre-Obama and post-Obama. I can only hope. I’m ready for that to be.
Have a great day everyone. I’m writing all day today. Woohoo!
