Monday Morning Round-Up

More controversy about the Nobel prize for literature NOT being awarded to an American writer (a French writer won this year, even though now they suspect a leak because of how many voted for this book particularly), even though Paul Krugman won a Nobel Prize for Economics for his thesis on free trade and globalization. Disagree with him if you will (I do, on many, many points), but that’s great news anyway.

And I finished American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld and was actually moping around on Saturday because I wanted more. The book was almost 600 pages long! Didn’t feel like it. What a denouement at the end too. Wow. Totally inspired me as I continue writing on my American epic story about a woman who learns multiple life lessons in the course of her lifetime. I’m not talking about specifics on this blog for obvious reasons (first of all is Carolyn See’s book Making a Literary Life in which she begs writers not to talk writing all the time; I’m trying) and second, if I blog about it, I think the magic goes away.

Had a great weekend: out with friends for dinner Friday night, up early Sunday morning for breakfast in Queen Anne with a friend who came into town for the Seahawks game. Thanks, J, for calling us!

Lots to do this week; I can’t blog about all that I want to as my office is completely torn up and I still am trying to set up the new PC laptop. I desperately need it, glad it’s here.

More tomorrow when I’m not writing under such a fierce deadline.

Glad to hear you liked American Wife — and Time of My Life. I finished Allison’s book two weeks ago and have wanted to pick up American Wife soon, too. (Her Prep was surprisingly good!) I’m going to make American Wife my reward for doing some marketing efforts I’ve been putting off. I better get a lot of work done first because it sounds like I’ll have my nose in the book for a while!

Hi, Kristen, yep, you won’t be able to put it down, trust me. At first I was dismayed, and almost stopped because I just hated the character at first, but it’s worth it. I just gave it in its own post today (a semi review) because I’m still thinking about the book three days later.
