Cleaning Makes the Writing Flow

I swear. I woke up this morning groaning because I have a bunch of stuff due today and I made an appointment with a personal trainer this afternoon (why, oh why, oh why?) and I felt very overwhelmed. As in, I’m just going to roll over and go back to sleep now.

Then I got moving and vacuumed. Magic! I don’t know if it’s the fact that vacuuming up little pieces of potato chips and goose feathers (feather pillows) makes my house seems lighter, brighter, and better, but I am in the flow.

So, I will write today for this client (plus a batch of pages are due by midnight Saturday night to the Naked Erikas writing group–our nickname, don’t ask) and will go meet my personal trainer (her name is Elizabeth and I hear she’s a killer) and then I will crash this afternoon into proofing. Or I will just take a nap. Either way, this will be a good day.

Laundry starting now, and yes, I’m writing.

Are you?

I love vacuuming, too! I think it’s something about the fact that it’s repetitious, has visible results, and is noisy, so you have only your thoughts (no TV or radio or phone getting in the way of thinking).

Mikawendy,

I agree! Plus, I love vacuumed wood floors and vacuumed carpet. They feel so good on my bare feet. And true to form, I got a great brainstorm while I vacuumed!
